Java (deceased) was 4yrs old. I got him when he was only six months.
How we met:
I rescued Sheba last Christmas (2007). She had been an indoor cat when they first got her. She is naturally a big cat but when she got too big to fit through the covered litterbox she was banished from the house. She spent 3yrs as an exclusivly outdoor cat where she woud keep to herself in her little house for 3yrs. It gets really cold in the winter here and would knock on the door all the time. They were sick of it and were going to have her put down. I couldn't let that happen to old girl. She was extremly antisocial and in pain from arthritis. The arthritis cleared up because she was able to stay warm. She warmed up to us pretty quick and made best friends with Java our long haired orange tabby. She was the happiest she has ever been until 3 pibulls came into our house grabbed java out of the front window and killed him. She came around the side of our house just in time to see it all. She hasn't been the same since then (July 4,2008) She is heartbroken over Java. Sheba is depressed and angry. It breaks my heart to see her like this. Two weeks ago she was so loving and greatful. Now she isolates and is refusing to eat.
My cousin adopted Buttercup (another long haired orange tabby) for my birthday to help me get through losing Java. She is 11 months and very tiny. I haven't had a kitten around for a long time so she is lots of fun. She is curious and playful. Unfortunatly Sheba doesn't like her. Hopefully Sheba will come around soon.
My cousin and I went to PetsMart to look at puppies but I didn't have a yard for a midsize to large dog and little dogs make me crazy so I went to the cat area. I had picked one out but when I reached into the cage to grab him he attacked me. I thought that was a pretty bad sign. In the mean time Java was playing with the keys on Amy's purse. When I picked him up he started purring like mad. I guess you could say he picked me. I suffer from chronic pain and whenever I started hurting really bad he would come lay on me where it hurt and the pain would go away. I was able to go off Oxycontin because of Java. He was my miracle kitty. I miss him so much sometimes I can hardly breathe. I can't bear the thought of leaving him behind so I am trying to get a home loan. The property has 3 houses on it in one of them lives the guy who owns the vicious dogs. I have managed to get the two pack leaders taken away. He still has the two other dogs so as soon as the loan goes through I am going to evict him so I never have to deal with him or those dogs again.
Pet likes:
Right now Sheba doesn't like anything (not even her favorite cat treats) or anyone. I try to comfort her but nothing seems to help. I think she is losing her will to live. Hopefully she will come around soon.
Buttercup likes everything. I had forgotton how curious and active kittens are. She likes to get into everything and has figured out that she can open the sink cabinet in the bathroom. Once she gets in she climbs into one of the drawers for a nap. She loves eating spiders and box elder bugs. We live in farm country so I am hoping she will refine her hunting skills to get rid of the billion or so flies. She's working on it.
Pet dislikes:
Sheba hates Friskies. We actually had to take the bag back and trade it for Whiskas because she and Java went on a hunger strike.
I haven't had Buttercup long enough to find out what she doesn't like. She's still a baby and she is spoiled. I can't help spoiling my kitties. I want them to be happy and secure at all times.
Pet’s favorite spot:
Sheba has been hiding a lot lately usually in my closet or under my bed.
Butter cup likes the drawers in the bathroom and the cubby in my armoir where I keep my crochet supplies.
Pet’s favorite toy:
I guess my cats are wierd because they don't like any of the toys I bought them. We have a mouse in our house so they moniter his little hole. I think they would like to have him as a toy.
Sheba likes to sleep with my teddy bear.
Pet’s silliest habit:
Both Java and Buttercup have really long hair between their toes so they bite at their own feet to try and pull it out. Today Buttercup managed to pull a large tuft out and it got stuck to his chin so she spent most of the day walking around with a beard.
When Sheba wants to go outside she walks over to the door and just stares at it as if it will magicly open. When she wants to come in she knocks loudly. I can't tell you how many times when she started knocking and I thought someone was here to visit.
Pet’s sweetest moments:
Sheba and Java used to kiss whenever they passed by each other. Sheba likes it when I rub my nose against her cheek she responds by rubbing her nose against my cheek. When I cry she licks the tears off my face.
Buttercup is a sweetheart all the time she just follows me around all day long and talks to me.
I crack up when my pet:
Sheba is declawed (by her former owner) but she still scratches on the scratching disk. If my other cats goes near it she lays down on it. The way she lays accross it makes her look like a beached walrus.
