Profile

Proud pet parent of:
I was the proud parent of Scarlett O'Hara. We lost her to a tragic drowning on Wednesday, June 25th, 2008. I am at loss and loved her more than anything. This tragedy has taken a toll on our whole family. I never left her out alone to go to the bathroom, but on that day, I came in to take a a phone call, and I believe that she accidentally fell in. I hate myself that I wasn't there to save her, though I tried to revive her, I was unsuccessful and I am devastated. I want to get the word out that I believe that Scarlett died due to the blue shiny solar cover placed on the pool 4 days prior. She never went near the pool because she didn't want to get wet, so you can imagine what baths were like. The solar cover just lies on top the pool but it looks like you could walk on it. I don't know that day if Scarlett decided to walk on this or fell in. If the cover wasn't on, I think she may have had a chance. Only weighing about 12 pounds, Scarlett couldn't fight the weight, heat and lack of oxygen from the solar cover. If I can save another animals life and a family the terrible heartache that I am going through.
How we met:
Seen her in a well known pet store in Columbia, Maryland
As soon as I seen her, she caught my heart....
Pet likes:
Her likes were: sleeping next to me, getting all the love and attention, my healthly dog treats, and chasing birds.
Pet dislikes:
If you would mess with her ears
Pet’s favorite spot:
Laying on the end of the couch, her new bed I had bought her for Christmas
Pet’s favorite toy:
Stuffed animals
Pet’s silliest habit:
rolling on her back all over the floor
Pet’s sweetest moments:
When I would kneel down to her and she'd give me such a loving kiss.
I crack up when my pet:
When she would jump on me and bark to give her treats such as carrots.
My pet is unique because:
She was very, very loving. She never growled or would bite anyone. She was always pleasant and happy to see everyone who came through the door.

Hi hon, sorry I too haven't been able to be on here much - I read some of the stories and just cry like a baby thinking of how much love I have for all of the furbabies I have ever had and to read about mistreatment of one of God's precious creatures just tears me to bits. I miss talking to you and I actually have found a place where happy thoughts and great people abound, not that they don't here, but you know what I mean. I would love for you to visit and see what you think. www.petloversparadise.ning.com Please stop by if you get a chance. I hope you and the children are doing well - 2 and four pawed ones. Hi Tina : ) I'm glad to hear that your doxie is doing better now and hope she will continue to do so...I know back trouble can be a reoccuring issue with doxies which still does always worry me with Chloe. Although she knows pretty much knows she's not supposed to jump or go up and down the stairs...there are certain times when she just will get so excited and just forget and do it anyway...like if were out on the deck and she spots a squirel or bird in the yard before I do...she takes off and is already down the stairs before I can stop her, or if I lay down on the sofa and forget to put her up there with me she'll jump up. She usually follows me around everywhere so I do my best to keep an eye on her to prevent her from jumping or anything. I know that back surgery is not cheap but if it ever came to that and it would help her, like you with your dog, we would be willing to do so for her also...but I REALLY hope that will not have to be the case...for Chloe and for your Prissy...Lets hope they both continue to be in doing good...I wish you the best and good luck to you and your doxie...I hope everything will work out GREAT for you both!!...take care and have a wonderful day : )

Hi...how are you : ) Thanks for the comment...but Chloe has actually had some problems in the past with her back as well...one morning she we woke up and she seemed to be walking funny like she was really stiff...and I wasn't sure what was wrong...and then later her condition got worse to the point where she was dragging her back legs when she tried to walk and apparently had no control or feeling in them...I was freaking out to say the least...lol...and was really concerned and scared. We took her to the vets and he gave her some medication...I think it may have been anti-inflamitory meds...and told us to keep an eye on her and if it doesn't help then she would need surgery. However, luckily she did get better and regained use of her back legs after a couple days...I think it had alot to do with the fact that we got her to the vets right away...as I know it is slightly rare for doxies to make such a recovery without surgery. She had plenty of different pills I had to sneek into her food every morning for quite a while...lol...but she's been off any meds for some years now and is doing fine...and I'm SO grateful. Before I did use to allow her to jump and go up and down stairs...which is why I think she did develop this problem...but now no jumping or steps at all...and I'm careful every time I pick her up not to but any strain on her back...We have a deck which has a slightly long and steep set of stairs which leads down to our backyard, so of course every time she has to go out I pick her up and carry her down the steps and stand out there with her and wait until she's ready to come in so I can carry her back up...we go this several times throughout everyday...no matter the weather...lol...she knows the routine and knows now not to jump and will even go over to the steps and put her front paws on the first step and wait for me to carry her up...I just love her so much and am dedicated to to health and happiness...as I'm sure you are as well with yours...I know this a common issue among doxies due to their elongated backs...I understand what your going through as it a hard issue to deal and cope with...I am also so very so very for you loss of your dear Scarlett...its heartbreaking to lose such a beloved pet, family member, and faithful friend...we had to put down our dog of 14yrs Zack in April...I was crushed and so was Chloe...they were best buddies...lol...I wish you all the best and hope you have a GREAT day!!!

Hi Tina
I haven't heard from you. Hope you are feeling better. I know life will not be the same without your Scarlet, but maybe it will be less painful to remember her.
I'm still sad, sad, sad. Yesterday I planted a tree in Milo's name. It kind of mekes me feel better knowing I have to take care of it now..like taking care of Milo. It's a beautiful crepe myrtle with red flowers.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Tina
How are you feeling now?
I hope you feel better, I really do.
I'm still very sad. Sometimes I feel a little better, but then I remember I'll never see Milo again and the tears come back.
Today was my birthday and I didn't enjoy too much. My husband invited some friends and we were in the backyard...and I remember Milo playing in the grass...he loved to roll on it. It was really hard not to cry in front of everyone.
So here I am now, crying and crying.
Milo took a part of my heart that will never be restored.
Really hope tou are feeling better.
Big Hug
Maria
