Proud pet parent of:
Sam Reyeros
How we met:
I received sam as a gift from my older brother Michael. I have suffered from asthma and allergies since i was a child and i learned about Bichon Frise's when i was in High School. They were said to be hypo-allergenic and just the most adorable things i have ever seen. My brothers have always has dogs of there own when they left to college, so i wanted my turn at having a dog myself. I have been a dog lover since i could remember, but due to my allergies i thought i could never have one. When Sam came into my life it was absolutely love at first sight. He has been with me since he was a puppy and i have enjoyed every single day with him since then. He is my son and my world. He has been with me throughout some very stressful time in my life and i am grateful to him. He is absolutely the best friend any person could have. As a 23 year old female, i can honestly say apart from my boyfriend....Sam is the love of my life.
Pet likes:
Sam love me!! He protects me, calms me down, wakes me up in the morning so i can rub him and take him for a walk. He is just like a little husband. He sleeps with his little body under my covers and lays his little head on his own pillow like a little man. Although Sam gets shy and nervous around new people, he lets his guard down with time. He adores the members of my family, and we all love him back.
Pet dislikes:
To be alone. He is a family dog. He is happy when he is with us. You can see it every time you get home. Even if i have been away from the house for like 10 minutes, Sam is ecstatic when i get to that front door.
Pet’s favorite spot:
My lap.. We takes naps together all the time. Sam loves to sleep on our couch and just hang out. Sometimes he even likes to hop up on top of the very top of the couch like a little cat. People love to see him just hang out up there. It looks so cute.
Pet’s sweetest moments:
Sam's sweetest moments probably happen when he goes to bed with me. My dad used to walk into my room in the morning to wake me up on the weekends, and he would find Sam sleeping on top of my head looking soo happy. My dad used to think it was the cutest thing in the world. I still wake up to this day with Sammy laying on my head. He is too funny.
My pet is unique because:
Sam is unique because he really doesnt act like most dogs. He has become so close to me i think of him like a little person. I talk to him, i play with him and he is just the best companion a person can have. He has corky habits and a unique personality that just makes him stand out as a dog. I love him to death.

Having such a bad day

I can't seem to stop thinking about Sams condition. I have never dealt with an animal becoming sick in anyway. Sam was a gift from my brother and i have had him since he was a puppy. At 7 i still consider him young and full of energy for him to be diagnosed with cataracts i can't help but feel so badly for him. I want to do anything i can to help him regain his sight to a somewhat normal capacity. I had never purchased pet insurance for him and now i feel like its all my fault that the expense f… Continue

thanks for the comment. I recognize my Spider's eye's in your photo above. I know how heart breaking it is. I also really understand how it is to be a student and not having much money... or even not being a student and having no money! I really hope things work out and that you can get Sam the care he needs. I will be sending you and him some good vibes! I also hope you can find an eye specialist. I know they arent in every city. Best wishes and let me know how it goes. Give Sam a big hug for me... and one for you too.

hi there, Dont give up...
My cat is almost blind in both eyes due to Glaucoma. He also had ulcers in his eyes from a virus. I have spent many appts. with a wonderful eye specialists for him... and he would talk about the surgeries for various things like cataracts. It is very successful! Cateract removal is pretty easy for them nowadays too.
***Please see if you have an eye specialist in your town or nearby. I heard that the cost can be around a few thousand but it may vary. That doc also talked about people that would do everything they could to raise the money for the surgery... even bake sales. I urge you to really consider doing anything you can to raise the money. Ask friends and family. Charge it. I know what financial burden is like, believe me. We just had to spend 4 grand on our doxie for back surgery. I don't think there should be a cost limit attached to our pets. If you cant do it for a while, please don't panic! I have heard amazing stories of how dogs and cats can still get around when they cant really see... or even when blind. You just have to not rearrange furniture, etc. since they remember where things are supposed to be... and they use their sense of smell to help as well. Sometimes they bump into things and that is hard to watch, but they are ok. Just keep the faith. It sacred me too once. My cat cannot get surgery due to his age and loss of kidney function, so I know its hard.
If you need any other info, email me. Please don't share my address though.
thanks and hang in there! Things like this have a way of working out. In the end, its really only stupid money... and I know that sounds funny, but its true. There is no value for a pets health and life. And remember, people may surprise you with generosity. There also might be a payment plan you can arrange with your eye specialist. Just don't give up.

Here are some organizations who can help guardians that cannot afford vet care. A couple are for rescue organizations and homeless pets. Some of these organizations help only in EMERGENCY situations - not for people who can't or won't provide basic care - although I think there are some organizations listed here who provide help to special needs people, like elderly who are on fixed incomes.
