I have a 9 year old Artesian Basset Hound and as she has gotten older she is so afraid of the rain, thunder, lightening, fire works and loud noises. This goes back
from when she was a puppy. These issues are a result of being in an abusive household, I was told. I adopted her when she was about 2 years old. She becomes very stressed, pants and runs around trying to find so sort of secured place. Last night we had rain and lightening and she was so scared, she jumped into the tub. This was around 4:00 a.m. I got up out of bed to find her hiding behind the shower curtain but trying to get out of the tub. She can't stay long in one spot for fear of the noise. When this weather occurs during the day, I do give her something to calm her down but when it's in the middle of the night, that's not easy to do. Can you adivse what would be the best to reduce her fright of loud noises. Another issue she has, it she is also afraid of flies. As soon as they land on her or any other type of flying bug, she makes a mad dash for someplace to hide to get away from them. I just don't understand this fear she has so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.
